(Wolcott, CT) The Citizens Against Substance Abuse (CASA) Coalition will enter their second year of funding from the
White House Drug Policy Office for the Drug Free Community Support Program grant fund. The grant will continue to fund the Coalition to reduce substanceabuse and promote wellness in Wolcott. The CASA Coalition focused on increases in the protective factors in the community by developing and maintaining relationships with community sectors such as businesses, media, civic organizations, faith based organizations, healthcare professionals and parents. Within the past year, the Coalition members have held an opioid awareness forum, alcohol town hall meeting, drug take back day, family and movie day, and various educational presentations.
Wolcott CASA will continue to work to reduce youth’s use of alcohol and marijuana through education, enforcement, and other environmental strategies that focus on decreasing access & availability. CASA’s plan is to increase awareness and positive behaviors of community members in Wolcott. The Coalition will also be working to decrease the percentage of Wolcott youth who report getting alcohol from home or at parties and increase family boundaries and communication regarding alcohol and marijuana use.
